China Closes 66 Golf Courses

Just got the news in my feed.

The Chinese government has long ago banned the construction of new golf courses in order to conserve valuable land water resources. Implementation of such ban was, however, seen as very relaxed and new courses continued to come out.

How many golf courses are there in China? At this point, there are about 600 golf courses in in the country and with an estimated 7.5% annual growth in the number of Chinese players, it is not difficult to imagine why companies still want to invest in new courses despite of the ban.

The closures caught much of the industry by surprise and hopefully, the sport will continue to prosper.
